Cornus florida dogwood with fall color in Pennsylvania

It is one of those trees that has something for all seasons. Showy spring flowers, berries, peeling bark on older trees and beautiful fall color. I wish they were easier to grow in my climate!

The only time they flower here is when they are very well protected or after a mild winter. The Cornos kousa dogwoods are a little hardier but not quite as pretty in flower.

Expecting a cold winter? I thought your climate was much warmer than mine? Down south a little further, dogwoods aren't as touchy. The problem they have there is fungus infections and dogwood anthracnose. Either one of those issues can greatly diminish their ability to produce flowers.

we had a 'bad winter' last year ~ bad for us anyway with months of freezing temperatures and up to 8" of snow ~ scotland would have had worse!!
It is possible we shall have similar again this year???
