Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate' (Eupatorium rugosum (White snake root))

A very useful plant that flowers at this time of year, and will take some shade.

You're welcome - it's lovely for months, because its leaves are dark! You might find it under a new name - 'Ageratina', because 'they' have changed its name. <sigh>.

ok, thank you, the new name is at least easier to say!! i was wondering how i would ask for the other name!!

13 Oct, 2011

I'm afraid that's only half of it, though. It's actually Ageratina altissima 'Chocolate'. Oh, I do wish they'd leave names as they are. I'm not changing my plant list!

It's easy - 'You-pat-orium'. lol.

oh thats better ~ thank you!!!

the adverts at the side of this page are calling it 'white snakeroot'!!!

Ignore them. I get annoyed because they call EVERY hardy Geranium a 'cranesbill', whatever type they are. Grrrr....

Love this one, ours is surviving, only just, it is so dry here.

I planted this during the Spring Spritz and its doing really well damp semi-shade....Will it need much mulching for Winter please?....

13 Oct, 2011

It wouldn't hurt, would it, as long as you don't feed it. Normally I'd say 'no' but if yours was only planted this year, it would be sensible, I think.

Dd - it is dry if you dig down, isn't it. I've seen that this week while I've been planting bulbs.

That's lovely Barbara. Mine is also in damp semi-shade, Motinot, just flowered a few days ago.

It's a great plant, isn't it - whatever its name is. ;-)

14 Oct, 2011

I won't be calling it that!

Oh good. :))

love this - I put mine in a pretty shady part - real showpiece this plant

24 Oct, 2011

Yes, I absolutely agree. :-)

25 Oct, 2011

I was asked today if I could take cuttings from mine . . . any advice, Spritz?

25 Oct, 2011

My RHS book doesn't mention cuttings, it just says they can be split in the spring, or grown from seed. I'll look in Carol Klein's book and see what she has to say.

25 Oct, 2011

Yes, easily divided in spring .. probably the best way!

Thank you - definitely worth propagating!
