It sure does look like a Kingfisher.
I like all the Thevetia peruviana in the background...it's very widely grown here along the freeways and in parks.

I guess the bird flew in and rested on my tree. There is no river or water body nearby for it to "fish".
Thevetia peruviana is very common here and grown on roadsides.

Thevetia peruviana is very drought tolerant and revels in heat and sun. Thevetia thevetioides is another which is widely grown here. It has larger leaves and much bigger flowers which are sweetly fragrant.
