Samhain bonfire 111101

Samhain bonfire 111101

This is the nearest I can come to having a bonfire: Lidl's did mini-barbies for a fiver, and all I've used it for so far is for fires (I'd read that clean wood-ash is one of the best natural fertilisers) but it does as a nini-bonfire base too

Good idea...

I'm Lidls fan too , but although I have several of these mini bar-bees I wouldn't have thought of this ---thanks for the idea !

smiles, welcome, Driad. I'm visually impaired and have mobility problems, so bending down enough to see what I'm doing at ground level is a slight prob - even were my garden bigger than a tablecloth to allow for a proper bonfire, much less a wood-burning session long enough to produce a useable quantity of ash!

Clever idea. A lot of those gizmos for a fire are expensive. A bit of lateral thinking works wonders.

is that what it is? lol I'd been using the label "weird"!

I've seen some of those fire-bowls online, and sort of liked them, but they're usually much too big and much, much too expensive! and those chimerina thingies (sure that's not how you spell it, but hopeyou know what I mea - look like pot-bellied stoves with chimneys) are even mroe so.

I hadn't thought of the barbie as doubling (or tirpling) as a "patio heater" but it'd do that too, now you mention it!

10/10!!!

*winks* amazing what can be done when you can't afford to do it properly, or don't have the space

Aren't we meant to jump over the fire, a Pagan thing!!

6 Feb, 2012

no way am I able to jump anything bigger than a night-light these days!

besides, according to the Wicker Man, it's dangerous to do that any other way but totally nekkid - and this ain't the climate for that!

grins, I was thinking about wall-mounting it - I have 2 - and using it as a firebowl for ritual use - not sure how I'd empty the ash, unless I made it detachable!

there's a narrow strip of wall at the end of the garden; it's the only free bit of wall I have, and luckily faces north, so I was thinking of making that my pagan space; firebowl, altar, shelf for special items

that's a good idea.

Better look up the attitudes of the energies of the north!!

6 Feb, 2012

sigh, on concretre paving, stuck in a small corner between a wire mesh fence and my bedroom window?? doiubt the energies would have much room to energise!

6 Feb, 2012

Tried googling energies or spirits of the north and just got travel and kayaking!

lol sounds about right! i tried to find "snow bars" that fit on roofs to stop snow falling off and got a recipe for "lemon snow bars"! did you add the magic word "pagan"?

there are probably hundreds of pagan sites, and i have a few in my faves, somewhere, but those are what other people beleive, no rreason I have to follow 'em! <|:-)

I did! They said it depended on which hemisphere!! I gave up!

6 Feb, 2012

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww

lol mostly I'm making it up as I go along: I take things that feel right to me, and add them to my "coat of many colours". It may not be orthodox, but it suits me - better to wear ragged clothing thta fits than be forced into a smart suit that chafes everywere!

is this the sort of thing you had in mind?

http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/wiccaandpaganismbasics/a/elements.htm

i tried "pagan elements north energy" but most of it seems to be general pagan/wicca/shamanism - we're all under the same umrealla, aparently!

will check later...painkillers making me see double! I could make it really interesting by adding have a glass of wine!

6 Feb, 2012

rofl. interesting, but for how long?

*sends good vibrations you-wards*
