Looked up and saw this tree with gorgeous flowers...then started looking around for a fallen flower so I could take a picture....found one.
Picture taken with mobile.

Havn't a clue what the flower is, but it's a nice picture.Looks like an oil painting.

Alexandramou:
It's a Ceiba speciosa (fka: Chorisia speciosa) or Silk floss tree flower. It can become a huge tree! The many trees here in San Diego are still blooming...they typically start blooming in late August.
Here's some of my pics:

I posted a picture of this tree...could it be chorisia insignis like Bampy suggested???
It was a huge tree.

No, Ceiba (Chorisia) insignis has white-yellow flowers. This one grows here, too...however, for some reason it's not too popular.

I think they are both gorgeous. Very large tree though.

Yes, they both are very gorgeous flowering trees. They do grow very large...some in Los Angeles are almost 100ft/31m tall.
There's many varieties of Ceiba (Chorisia) speciosa here in California.
