Out walking the cross country tracks on Birch hill, mostly to spy out scenes like this. With our long late fall, the trees colors were more varied and brighter than one would normally see. The black poplar trunks always catch my eye looking up.

Thank you Pimpernel. I don't appreciate to yellow as much as I should, but it always stuns me under these old poplar groves.
Thank you Sticki, I could lay in these groves and look up into the trunks and the blue sky for hours. I end up with a shot or two every year. :-)
Sandra, thank you. :-) These are as big and old as the species gets. Wonderful forest.

Love the aspens...the ones we have here are at their best as the oaks are turning...hillsides have lost the brilliance of the maples and the burnished bronze of the beeches and oaks along side the brilliant yellow of the aspens is breathtaking. At the same time the clean dark green of the conifers add drama...it's a wonderful sight! And you captured the pale sun of autumn and the washed blue sky...great shot. Been noticing that the seasons up here have phases as well...it's glorious being right in the middle of it!

Thank you Lori. We don't get many different colors here, but they are sharp and he are often clear skies during it. This year has been perfect for intense colors.

What else?
See who else is growing Populus tremuloides (American Aspen).
See who else has plants in genus Populus.
