Tetrapanax papyrifer - Rice-Paper Tree Blooming

This is a pretty common small tree here in California. There's a Jade shrub below blooming, also. Photo taken at Mission Bay on a very warm Christmas Day 2011.

Nice to see, I get buds on mine every year but never see any flowers as they come too late.

I have this in my own garden.I like the plant but it runs all over the place.It is supposed to be a bit tender but came through the last two hard winters.

It is an interesting looking tree...do you cut it back to create the knobbly bit on the trunk, Andy?

I know Rice Paper plant tree is hardy, however, not sure how hardy the flowers are, though.

Yes, it does typically run everywhere. Little ones will pop up all over if left on it's own.

Yes, it can be cut back and will branch out well.
