Aeonium arboreum - Tree Aeonium

What an amazing flower, is it in someone's garden or growing wild?

A favourite of mine, I love Aeoniums.

Never seen Aeonium flowers. Nice :)

It's in someone's garden. Although, many species of Aeonium do grow wild along the California coast.

I love aeoniums too. I saw some huge ones in Cornwall and took some back to France, but they didn't do well there...

Yes, they can grow pretty large here in California. Carmel by the Sea (along the central California coast) has some of the largest ones I've ever seen in my life.

Wow....that's huge..I have two or three in flower in the conservetory at the moment

These plants only grow to 6ft/2m tall.

with the flower mine is about 1 meter tall

As karenfrance says,Cornwall is the best place to see Aeoniums, and you will find magnificent specimens growing on the Isles of Scilly.

can they tolerate dry heat ? Are they to be treated as cactus? I got one on a trip, I dont know how will it do in my place.

they need more water than cacti but never let them sit in water. they are best kept frost free. not sure about your climate Mochiseki

It should grow very well in your hot subtropical climate.

It grows and looks best during very dry weather, when watered once a week. In very drought conditions it tends to look very sparse and the leaves are small.

I think that they must like warm(ish) coastal air...

They grow well in hot inland areas, also. However, it's not a desert plant.

it think they do enjoy the coast here in europe...as its windy i think its less damp....so less chance of rotting...

Yes, do especially well along the coast. The largest and nicest ones I've ever seen where along the California coast.
