Lovely to see, an uncommon visitor here as well,we had a young one last year eating ants on the patio which was lovely to watch :o)

He only visits at this time of the year. A great spotted woodpecker calls at the feeder quite often though.

Great shot! And how wonderful to have a lovely exotic visitor to your garden. Whenever I chance to see something unusual in ours, by the time I have dashed off to get the camera & get back to the window again, it's off in a flash of wings ... or if I do manage to get the shot, its either blurred or too far away.

Gorgeous birds! They cause problems round here though, by pecking holes in peoples' wooden shutters.
