Japanese Stewartia

This si some ground covering plant, Skwright? Anyway, those beautiful decorative barks of the trees (are they Acer species?) suit perfectly with them.

The trees are Japanese Stewarta (Stewartia pseudocamellia). They flower in mid-summer, not a big display but there are usually flowers on it for about a month. They have bright red-purple leaves in fall too.

I was fascinated by that shiny snake-like bark. Very beautiful tree. Never saw it here.

I have two young ones (my dog accidentally killed one this winter though, broke it off about 3-4" off the ground!). I'll re-post a pic of the fall color and also a close-up pic of a blossom.
