Plumeria rubra 'Hilo Beauty' - Hilo Beauty Plumeria Flower Spike

Plumeria rubra 'Hilo Beauty' - Hilo Beauty Plumeria Flower Spike (Plumeria rubra 'Hilo Beauty' - Hilo Beauty Plumeria)

My Hilo Beauty Plumeria has a flower spike, even though it's dormant...this is really early for this plant to have such a full flower spike. It should bloom by maybe the beginning of April or possibly late March. Photo taken Feb. 17, 2012.

It's because of all that lovely heat you've been having. Lucky.

It must be because of the unusually warm winter. This variety of Plumeria almost always blooms at least in the middle of summer; as it needs to have a lot of heat to initiate the flowers spike.

Sandra:

Well, I'm hoping it'll be blooming by April...if it does bloom in April, this will be earliest this Plumeria variety has ever bloomed for me. This variety needs a lot of heat and very warm nights to bloom well.

Homebird:

I have lots of Plumerias. Some I've had for over 20 years.
My largest tree in the ground is 10ft/3.2m tall and is almost 11 years old.

Homebird:

Plumeria trees can grow to 50ft/15m in the tropics...here in San Diego's subtropical climate they usually top out at 25ft./7.6m tall...although, I've heard of old ones being 30ft/10m tall in southern California.

Milky:

Yes, it has lots of flower buds on this spike. Today, I actually saw some Plumeria trees blooming already...I don't ever remember Plumeria rubra blooming this early in the year. Of course, Plumeria obtusa 'Singapore' blooms any time it's warm to hot (even in winter).
