Strelitzia nicolai (Giant Bird of Paradise)

This had a huge chop last year and has bloomed since I was last there. This is the bloom a little past its best. The bloom was a good three metres up - this is a seriously huge plant!

Fantastic plant, I saw one of these in Italy, it was about 4m tall, impressive! one for my Botanical garden when I win the Lottery :o)))

That's a good close up for being so high up. Yes, Giant-bird-of-Paradise does get huge...it grows wild here and grows to almost 40ft/12m tall.
