These palms are getting very big. They were planted back in 1997 from 24in boxes. They have grown considerably over the years. However, live to at least 200 years old and can grow to over 100 ft/32m tall. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on March 21, 2012.

Sorry to hear about palm!
It most likely wasn't Bismarck Palm. They don't make a good potted palm. It has a very long tap root.

Thanks! :>) This palm is famous for it's silver-blue or white cast of the fronds.

It was a Biimarkia Delonix and you are correct it didn't make a very good potted palm, I didn't know about the long tap root, lesson learned :o)

Wow, that's surprising! I didn't think Bismarckia nobilis would be available for sale there. It can survive in a very large pot. I know nurseries in northern San Diego County mass-grow huge specimens of this tree. It's now a relatively inexpensive palm at $35.00 for a big 15 gallon tree. Twenty years ago it used to coast more than $100.00 for a small 1 gallon size palm!
