That is the welcome committee or garden warden depending on how insecure you are feeling.

Tortoises are very, very stubborn. Every time I move Josie away she returns as quickly as she can. She weighs over 7lbs so could damage the eggs if Mrs Duck was away feeding. I believe hatching should take place within the next week or so :)

The duck does not look harrassed does she. I wonder what would happen if you did not take the tortoise away. If she strayed in to the ducks space would the duck give her a peck to tell her to back off and if so would she take the hint. Does the tortoise bother Millie and does she see the duck as fair game to chase away?

Millie is afraid of the tortoises, Scotsgran. She moves away from them if they go near her but she has never growled at them - if she thinks they're not looking she will 'pinch' their apple pieces! The duck hissed at the tortoise but didn't move from the nest. I am very lucky with Millie, but it wouldn't be the same if it were a cat or a rabbit, unfortunately.

Millie sounds pretty well behaved to me. Interesting to hear that the duck hissed so she was obviously unhappy about the tortoise being too close. We know so little about how birds and animals react and are constantly being told not to endow them with human feelings but they are not as dumb as some would have us believe.
