Miracle of the Flash Flood

While I visited my parents, we drove up the Virgin into Zion National Park to watch the flood result of the first rain in 4 months. The high rocks were getting snow due to the temperature but water collected came cascading off the cliffs in to this narrow valley to fill the river. High winds picked up the falls in mid air causing fall like this where the water disappears before coming to the earth. The valley was wet with mists. Heaven.

They are some of them thousands of feet tall, so they get everything. 110F in summer. The desert was just drinking in the rain, it was like a miracle. The next pic shows things better.

Thank you. :-) I want on one walk up to some emerald pools, but the trail was frozen over with thick ice and we chose not to go up. Even on the dry days, there ice in the wet places. This thick sandstone weeps at the bottom, water traveling through the very stone from the top.

It was very dangerous, all that ice. But so stunning to see this area in this rare blanket. One of the favorite climbs is called angels rock, switchbacks straight up the side to a top only 3 feet wide. I haven't been up there yet, clamoring over hanging by a chain. Eek!
