It's strange to see so many flowers on this little tree outside winter (maybe it's a different variety). Photo taken April 4, 2012 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

Yes, the flowers are very similar to Calliandra species. However, this tree can grow very tall and large.

I remember in Arthurs Pass in New Zealand where the slopes were covered in these - wonderful sight!
