Very poor this year. Aphids, Drought and dead heading last year all took their toll!!
First time ever I dead headed a Rhododendron - won't be doing that again!!
The performance of this is so poor - my neighbour's sister knocked on the door to ask what had happened - she only comes round the back gardens once a year for her niece's birthday party and has always admired it and was upset she couldn't see the flowers!

One of the truest forms of red in a Rhododendrons apparently Karen - I was lucky enough to have this id'd by David Mallais.
I inherited this with the garden and it has been happy in this spot for 4 years - so will give it til next to buck up it's ideas!!

Yes, good thinking. My other four, in the shady border are ok, well three of them are but one had a really weird disease on its leaves last year and lost a lot of them. It has some cracking flower buds on it now though. I shall have to underplant it with something to hide it's nakedness!

That's a gorgeous colour. Mine are still sulking. Leaves healthy enough, but hardly a bud. No idea why.

One for us Taureans Scottish. Has anything been cut down in the vicinity of the plant because they do not like early morning sun on frosted plants. It is better if they can start the day in a shady area. I do like the red ones. I never dead head my rhodos I just let them sit there.

Thank Oji...hope yours starts to improve.
This was in more shade before the shed was removed S. but that was 2 years ago come July. So it got through the last 2 years without any harm! Never dead headed before a lesson learnt!!!! Will just have to wait and see. I've planted some decideous shrubs to help. It's too near house to plant a tree! It's not a large one so I have my fingers crossed.
It is Pixi thank you x

Isn't that strange? It is a very lovely colour Scottish. I've removed one of my rhodys. It was looking such a pitiful state. Replaced it with a Percy Wiseman which is very reliable. My Nancy Evans is extremely sad looking as well. Plenty of flowers but small, not the usual round trusses and most of the leaves gone. I think the soil in that bed is just too wet. Apparently the one thing they cannot stand (other than lime) is poor drainage.
