I really like azaleas and I look at them a lot in the plant shops...I'm told that some of them will grow in any type of soil now...but I'm too scared to try...

Karen - grow one in a container - I've got a dwarf Azalea that has been in the same container for around 5 years - although I've had the plant for around 12. Dug it out the old garden to bring here and have never bothered taking it out as it seems to like it.
I just remove some of the old compost - top it up with ericacious compost and feed it a couple of times throughout the year.

That is good advice Scottish. I too have a couple in pots and they do well. Azaleas seem to be much hardier and free flowering than the rhododendrons and not nearly as fussy.

I agree about them being less fussy Scotsgran - whilst the Roddies are looking rotten this year - all the azaleas seem to be thriving!
Karen...another plan...me thinks you deserve to formulate as many as you like - with recent events - you deserve them all!!
