I love having an extended lilac season. These flowers seem to last longer (maybe since they bloom later and aren't subjected to the harsh early-spring weather). Kind of short stems in a vase but they easily perfume a few rooms.

Rkwright@Do you know, how fast do they grow? I bought a miniature lilac, it is now just about 15 cm and I was told it would be no higher then 40-50 cm.

There is a shrub being sold as a "miniature lilac" called Leptodermis oblonga but it's not actually a lilac. I have had one for a couple years now, lightly fragrant purple flowers and a frequent bloomer. It only gets 2 feet, maybe 3 feet tall (I keep it trimmed to about 1 foot). 40-50cm is between 1-2 feet tall but I don't know of any lilac that stays that small. Lilacs really vary in growth rate, some grow more than 6 inches or 15cm a year but most of the small ones grow half that in a season. If the shrub you have is Leptodermis oblonga and you trim any long extensions shoots it will stay small for a long time. Do you have a picture of it?

Hi Robert, on the label it wasn´t written that it is Leptodermis. So I do not know if you are true or not. Will try to go to my garden today and make a photo.

Here's a link with some pictures of Leptodermis oblonga: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/131593/
I am definitely curious to see what kind of lilac you have. I've never heard of one that stays that small but if there's one out there I'd like to get one!
