Alex, these are absolutely fab! Wish I could grow them in the garden like that! Still I don't do too badly in the Conservatory :o)))

Thanks Petaltracey. I would love a glass greenhouse for a few tropical plants!

Excellent Alex!
I'm tempted to try a few in the rockery here - it's very sheltered...........

that is a real beauty

Look lovely so much better and more natural than in pots.

very nice Alex...

Go for it Meanie. They grow really well here in our lovely warm climate (like our friend Delonix would say) ;o)))

Thanks Paul, I spotted a pure white one the other day......

I agree with you Bjs. But....some plants must be kept in pots. I lost a tropical plant that I really liked this winter....learned my lesson the hard way. Never know what mother nature has planned.

Thank you Sl.

Wow! Gorgeous! All the Amaryllis are done blooming here in San Diego.
2 Jun, 2012
Thanks Delonix, there are still loads blooming here. See my red carpet???
2 Jun, 2012
Yes, it looks great!
2 Jun, 2012
Climate not so warm, but worth a go maybe............
2 Jun, 2012
It's nice in the ground but not so nice on concrete. Oh well, we can't have it all.
2 Jun, 2012
Would you keep it in a pot Meanie?
2 Jun, 2012
I just realized what you meant about the red carpet! LOL!
I have the same problems with the red stamens from my neighbor's bottlebrush tree. It makes my shade tent for my plants and the concrete red!
Meanie, go for it! I would plant a bottlebrush where you live...they are very, very hardy especially when they get large.

I was talking about trying a few Amaryllis Delonix!!
Now that you mention it though, a Callistemon is tempting.......
I'd sink a few in pots Alex, and bury some really deep too just to compare them.

Meanie:
I'm all confused! It's not the first time! LOL! :>)
Amaryllis is a bulb, though many are native the American tropics, the bulbs can be insulated by the ground, as long as they don't get too wet in winter.

That's my thinking too Delonix - plant 'em deep in the rockery which is a nice little micro climate sheltered by walls and the house, and should be free draining too.
4 Jun, 2012
It sounds like a great plan! I'm sure they grow very well for you.
5 Jun, 2012
You're funny Delonix.
Good luck with your bulbs Meanie.
5 Jun, 2012
They might Delonix. Of course, they could also say "stuff this" and turn to mush! Gotta try these things though..........

Meanie:
Try to stay optimistic! I know it's difficult for me to really comprehend the weather there...especially after this last winter here in San Diego, which was so very warm.
6 Jun, 2012
They do or they don't Delonix - it's an experiment, so no point in getting down if it fails.
