I find in my heavy clay Juliern that some of my plants, like the roses and this plant, dont take up enough magnesium. So I give them a dose and the leaves stop going yellow. Its a very old gardeners trick. Over the years I also found that it works much better put around the plant stem dry, then water in after 2-3 days.

Oh my goodness I am going to buy some today!

Not all plants need it Pix, but those that do! Look for the signs first, lack of magnesium shows as a lack of green in the leaves, the area between the veins especially the lower older ones, go yellow/ yellow brown and the leaf margins may also lose their green colour. Cabbage family sometimes develop a purplish colour.
Although sandy soils are more likely to lack magnesium, I have found it is sometimes not taken up by plants in hard clay especially roses.
High levels of Potasium (K) may also suppress the uptake of magnesium but too much Magnesium will reduce the K levels.
So although I use Epsom Salts its striking a balance as some plants will produce nothing but green leaves if you over do it.
