Lovely to see the robins visiting :o)

Very much so Terratoonie, they are always waiting for us to finish digging, then they come down and ravish through the soil. I'm quite busy in between showers to get my garden ready for my Open Garden for next month. As you know, this has not been a very good year for gardening with all this wet weather day by day. Good old weather hey... Hope you're keeping well :-)

8 Jul, 2012

All well here thanks. Good luck with your Open Garden.
The wet weather doesn't make preparations any easier !

8 Jul, 2012

Thank you Terratoonie :-)

It must be difficult Louis...dont know how you manage to get a garden ready with the weather as it has been....Beautiful robin pic...:>)

8 Jul, 2012

Good luck Louis just finished opening ours, hope you have better weather, has to improve soon, lots of pics please.

Thank you Moninot and DD2.

Moninot .... I guess we have to adapt to what the weather brings us. I have have loads of ferns, which love this kind of wet and humid weather, but we have to sort out the bedding and pot plants thoguh :-)

DD2 .... Hope you had a good day on your open day. It's a shame because one tries ones best and on the day, it could be not so good, but as I said earlier, hope it was worth it. We always have the local people coming to us despite the weather, and then people from surrounding villages and towns depending on the weather.
I'm going to have a look and see if you have any pics from your open garden :-)

Louis:

Great close up! Did he/she come to eat the figs, also?
I noticed the robin was in a fig tree...it is a fig tree, right?

10 Jul, 2012

It is, you are very observant Delonix, we have no figs on ours, must be too wet... what about you Louis?

10 Jul, 2012

No Delonix1, the robin did not eat any of my figs as I have none. This time last year I had loads, but because of this wet weather we are having, we have had no sunshine to get them going.

DD2, I pleased to hear that you have no figs as well, but as I said above, it's because we have had no sunshine. Ah well, we cannot do anything about the weather hey....

Dottydaisy2:

Very large, old fig trees are extremely common here. In fact, figs are commercially grown in many parts of California.

It also pops up in many gardens unwanted. I have one in my front yard which came from the birds...I've cut it down many times...and it always comes back.

12 Jul, 2012

Louis:

Sorry to hear about the lack of figs! However, there's still time for a new crop, though. How many crops do you usually get within a year? We get 2 or 3 crops a year.

12 Jul, 2012

Hi Delonix1. I only get one crop a year, if we get plenty of sunshine. This year, I will not get any figs as the weather has been so wet, damp and no sunshine............ My word, so you have 2 - 3 crops every year, no way are we getting that here, even if we have a good summer!

12 Jul, 2012

Wow! That's amazing...only one crop a year if you're lucky. Here in California we get the spring and summer and fall crop depending on how hot the weather (late summer and fall is usually the hottest time of the year).

13 Jul, 2012

Wish we had your weather here Delonix1 :-)

13 Jul, 2012

You may not want your wish. It's been very hot and humid here. Further inland, they've been under excessive heat warnings almost all week with temps up to 120ºF/48.9ºC.! YUCK!

13 Jul, 2012

WOW 48.9C ....... That must be hot!!! Hope things cools down a bit for you....

13 Jul, 2012

It cooled down for a few days. Now, it's hot again...and it's going to get hotter. Yuck!

19 Jul, 2012

Goodness me. Is this unusual weather as well, or is it normal for this kind of year?

19 Jul, 2012

Yes, it's pretty typical weather for this time of year. It's the "July Fry". The average high/low for where I live is: 87ºF (31ºC) / 66ºF (19ºC). However, with this being said: it can be much, much hotter (more than 100ºF/38ºC) this time of year.

20 Jul, 2012

How very nice to have such hot weather, especially first thing in the mornings and evenings.

20 Jul, 2012

Yes, usually the temp is around 75ºF/24ºC by 7 or 8 a.m.

Two nights ago the temp didn't go below 80ºF/27ºC until 1:00 a.m. It was a pretty warm night.

20 Jul, 2012

That's what I like about the hot weather, sitting outside in the garden til late at night .......... How I miss that this year.

20 Jul, 2012

Yes, the warm evenings are nice. Actually, I do most of my gardening when the sun starts to go down. It's too hot and the sun is too intense here during the day.

22 Jul, 2012

You are so lucky, to have such great evenings :-)

22 Jul, 2012

Yes, we're very lucky to have terrific weather most of the year! :>)

23 Jul, 2012

Yesterday and today, the weather was nice and hot, but unfortunately it will not last.:-(

24 Jul, 2012

I saw it was 84ºF/29ºC in London (today July 24)! It's been the same temp here...however, the night-time lows are much warmer.

At least you can enjoy it while it last. :>)

24 Jul, 2012

Very much so, making the most of this weather....:-)

25 Jul, 2012

I saw the weather is cooling down a little.

27 Jul, 2012

I'm pleased for you :-)

27 Jul, 2012

I meant to say the weather is cooling down a little for you. lol.

It has cooled down here, also (which is very surprising for July) However, with this being said; next week is suppose to be extremely hot and hot. So we're enjoying it. :>)

28 Jul, 2012

Oh I see, sorry I got it wrong. It has not been as hot as it should be though for this time year, and we are heading for more rain again ............ Back to the wet and damp weather, but I guess the plants will love it though :-)

28 Jul, 2012

I can see how you got it wrong. My wording wasn't so clear. I just noticed in my previous comment I said: "next week is suppose to be extremely hot and hot". I meant to say: It's suppose to be very hot and humid! lol! :>)

Louis, you're very lucky to have the rain. Plants love rain water! Here I have some plants dying back because of the lack of my watering (which I have to do daily or twice a day).

28 Jul, 2012

I see what you mean Delonix1, that plants do need rain, but we have had few months non stop. As I am writing this, it's pouring down with thunder and lightening, but plants also needs some sunshine to get the flowers to bloom. How I wish I could send you some rain and so then you don't have to water your plants by hand LOL!!

I was out in my garden doing a water fixture, when all of a sudden the heavens opened, giving me a cold shower lol!!

I remember when I went to Palm Springs in California, it was so hot, that they had mist sprinklers to cool the area, which I thought was a brilliant idea :-)

29 Jul, 2012

A couple of months non-stop rain is a lot. I don't think I would like that at all. I do wish you would send me some rain, though! LOL!

Yes, Palm Springs has extremely hot weather! Were you there during summer? I try to avoid Palm Springs like the plague in summer. I said I would never ever go there in summer again...and I went last August. It was 114ºF/45.6ºC when I pulled in the afternoon (it's a two hour drive from San Diego). I hate this type of hot weather! The best time to go to Palms Springs is in winter from: Nov - Mar.

The misters are very popular here in inland San Diego and other areas of southern California.

30 Jul, 2012

I went about 4 years ago and it was in September. So you have those misters in San Diego as well, it sure helps quite a lot, it's bliss.

It has been raining most of the time since April, so we are kind of fed up with this wet weather. It is the wettest summer on record...... oh yes, please do have as much rain as you like, I will not stop you LOL!!!

30 Jul, 2012

I hope you get some extended clear and dry weather so your trees and plants can bloom well.

Yes, the misters are sold in most areas of California. Even though they are very popular in inland San Diego, I don't have any. I would like to get some misters for my shade structure in the front yard. It would be especially good for when Santa Ana Wind season starts in late Sept. The Santa Ana Winds bring extremely dry and hot air to southern California.
