Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee' - Cherries Jubilee Allamanda (Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee' - Cherries Jubilee Allamanda)

I planted my Allamanda "Cherries Jubilee' in the ground today. I think it'll grow and flower much better. Photo taken July 12, 2012.

That looks beautiful!

Thanks! I love it! I just hope it lives through winter!

Winter??? What winter? You don't have a winter!!!

13 Jul, 2012

My heart bleeds for Delonix too as he approaches "winter" Alex!!!!

Is it a shrubby one then?

Alexandrmaou:

We do have winter here -- we do, we do, we do!!!...even though it's very mild and sometime feels like spring or summer. lol! :>)

The only A. 'Cherries Jubilee' I've ever seen was growing in Balboa Park...it seemed to be doing very well. I've read there's people growing this plant successfully in southern California. I think it'll do well here...however, I'll find out this winter.

Meanie:

Your heart should be bleeding for me.

It's a woody vine so it can be make into a standard.

Delonix,
Have you seen the weather in the UK lately??? They don't have a summer this year! Really bad. (brrrrr)

16 Jul, 2012

Yes, I've heard about the record rains. I wish they would send us some rain...we need it so badly!

another beautiful plant, D1. Is this closely related to the mandevilla?

20 Jul, 2012

Thanks! Yes, it's in the same family: Apocynaceae. However, it's much more tropical!

This doesn't present a problem for you...I suspect. Will it grow to great proportions? sure is pretty. I just bought a trumpet flower vine, Campsis radicans, for the deckseat trellis.

21 Jul, 2012

This plant may be some what tender for San Diego's climate. However, there's one in Balboa Park which is doing very well. I suspect it'll be fine, but I'll find out. :>)

Campsis radicans is s beautiful vine! It's pretty widely grown here in San Diego and throughout most of California. Did you know it's related to Jacaranda? It's in the Bignoniaceae family (same family as Jacaranda, Spathodea, Pyrosteigia, and Kigelia (sausage tree). I have pics of all these trees and vines. :>)

22 Jul, 2012

I certainly remember your pics of the Jacarandas...and the Kigelia... The label says that it's hardy to zone 3...and I'm in 4a...so I'm hopeful it will survive the coming winter and be in bloom next season.

I have several pics of Pyrostegia venusta - Flame Vine, also. I saw one in full bloom the other day. This is the first time I've ever seen one blooming in summer (extremely unusual), as it's a mid-winter bloomer.

Here' a pic:

Campsis radican is suppose to be extremely hardy. I'm sure it'll do well where you live. That's amazing you live in zone 4a! I live in zone 11...so many zones in between.

I did nt realise it was a vine it looks gorgeous climbing like this.

30 Aug, 2017

Yes, it's a vine that can be trained as a shrub or standard. The first time I saw Allamanda 'Cherries Jubilee' (years ago) was an on-line photo trained as a standard in Miami, Florida. It was gorgeous! I said: I must have one! :>))

31 Aug, 2017

Lol well you ve got one now did you make it into a standard.

31 Aug, 2017

Yes, I trained into a standard. It's mounding quite a bit now. It's growing so fast because of the very hot weather.

4 Sep, 2017

Clever you Andy making and moulding into a standard I love stamdard plants they give height to a garden.

At least some thing likes the hot weather?.

4 Sep, 2017

Yes, it makes a very good standard. It does grow so fast that it tends to turn into a mound. LOL!

5 Sep, 2017

lol I bet the mound looks wonderful to Andy

5 Sep, 2017

Yes, I like it...for now, anyway. It will have to be cut back soon, though. Most Allamanda species are rampant growers.

6 Sep, 2017

Good know they are rampent growers good to fill a gap if needed.
