I am obliged to ask what the h*** you were doing outside at 4.00 this morning? It's a bit cheeky of me because I was outside at 3.00 myself.

Must be something in the air G. I usually get up and go walking the dog at 4.
Don't tell me..... it was the heat keeping you awake.!

No, we went off to a firework display up the mountain which didn't start until gone 11.00 (Blinking officialdom dithering over deciding whether 5,000 people would put up with being told that the tinder conditions and hot dry wind constituted a fire hazard & they had to go home) Then friends invited us back for a nightcap, then, when we got home, having to go out and water the garden for an hour, then there was a darned good film on the box. And yes, it was very hot, too, and the biting insects were out in force. Also, it's so hot in the day, you can't do anything energetic, especially outdoors, so we siesta for quite a while, and find ourselves wide awake until silly times of the night/morning. The cats feel the same way and want to rush around playing games in a dark garden while it's relatively cool, squawking and crashing into watering cans. World gone mad.

Your officialdom almost as bad as ours Gat . . . did you hear about the Hyde Park concert with Springsteen and Macca being halted at 10.30pm because of a health and safety regulation banning loud music after 10.30pm?! Sir Paul and Bruce and 76,000 people were not happy. As you so succinctly put it - world gone mad.
(sorry Pimm's . . .)

OMG! I hadn't heard about that one! Are you serious? Idiots, small-minded, power-crazed B*****ds!
At least our jobsworths had a genuine reason for concern - no-one wants their bit of the mountain and house to go up in flames, but the conditions had been there for 36 hours, and weren't about to change. Very good display once it got going. I saw most of it, but wasn't happy when some lady with a giant, frizzy, bunny-boiling eighties hairdo came and planted herself in front of me and cut off my line of vision. The overhead bits were splendiferous, though. (Fireworks, not hairdo)

Thanks All.
The thing about that concert is we are now just a day later in full Olympic celebration mode! Jobsworths indeed.

I really fear for visitors to these Olympic games - it seems like a shambles of organisation already. I don't think I shall be watching.

Another Olympic security cock up is about to be announced here in Manchester... Must be the football then?
