That is gorgeous DRC - it reminds me of our shopping mall when all the lights are up and looking pretty - strange how my mind works :D

It is quite a large shrub Scottish, I have to cut it to the ground every spring to get it to flower each year. Thanks Paul its a very pretty pale pink close up.

Isn't that just elegant? (putting on Marilyn Monroe voice) A truly pretty plant. How hardy is it, Denise?

Hi Gattina, In colder climates F. magellanicas will generally loose their leaves in winter, but still thrive as a die-back perennial, I have had mine for at least 3 winters now. I dont touch it till the spring to protect it. I cut it down to the ground in spring as I found it will not flower if I dont. If you want a showy plant than this will disappoint, but I like it because it looks very good with its new foliage every summer and its very pale pink (almost white) eardrops all over. Can be used as low hedges too.

I don't have much shade in the (at the moment very hot, dry, dying) garden, and I guess perennial fuchsias wouldn't survive without it, but I'd love to find a spot for one as pretty as this. Do you think she'd survive in a big pot?

Fuchsia roots needs protection, so would depends on the pot and the level of protection. I dont think you would really like it in a pot unless it was very near by as the flowers dont stand out from a distance Gattina.

Mmmm - good point, Denise. You can scarcely find our front door for pots at the moment - the only bit of the garden where shade-lovers (or even shade preferrers) have the slightest chance of survival.

Hywel posted a photo of - Lechlade Magician - hardy fuchsia, which forms a large bush up to 6 ft tall Gattina?

Oh Yes, I seem to remember seeing that one!

I have seen F.M. alba growing against a sun drenched west facing wall and covered in flowers for a number of years. It's roots were in shade though so may be that helped.

Hi Timothy they are quite popular around here and thinking about it, those I have seen most seen to be growing against a stone wall. Although mine is just in a bed in full sun.
