Never seen a lawn decoration like that before. Very cleverly designed.

Beautiful - but a bit scary!

Wow

Driad, you're not wrong. I went out on Friday am ...5 1/2 mile walk with thistles, scabious....every wildflower you can imagine in the footpaths...I saw 7 butterflies. I counted them. I was staggered....I've seen two in my garden this week...it's terrible.

That is very sad, Karen. It hasn't been too bad here, but everything is so much later - once the sedum spectabile comes out I usually get loads of peacocks, so here's hoping.

(Is it just me, or is that butterfly upside down?)

Funky!

We had a pair of large whites the other day , on the nasturtiums , where I wouldn't really want them , but they might just get away with it in the present situation ! The Buddleia is not doing its job !
You are right Karen , on a prolonged walk on Saturday , with lots of plants , real wild country , we saw three or four only .

MAGIC!

I'm not sure that butterflies have read the book that says they like to settle on Buddleja. Or the modern versions of Buddles have a lesser attraction for them. The entry of Bonariensis into many gardens seems to be an alternative place to pay a visit. All sorts of things seem to be changing around us. So far this year there are no orb spider webs showing. I saw a larger Ladybird clad in bright orange yesterday with lots of spots. I was spot counting when it flew off.

I have found sedum spectabile to be one of the most successful butterfly plants. That and marjoram. They used to love basking on the leaves of the Victoria plum, but sadly that has passed on to the great orchard in the sky...

Yes , I've noticed that "the butterfly tree " is a bit of a misnomer , but we did see one in Italy , on Lake Orta , where you couldn't have got another butterfly on if you had tried . (Got that one for the album somewhere !)
We've have quite a few bees of various sorts around the garden ( I'm no apiarist ) , so presumably there isn't a lack of nectar .
Dorjac , your ladybird wasn't a Harlequin was it ?
