This plumeria tree had huge white and pink flowers. Photo taken in my old neighborhood in San Diego, CA. on Aug. 14, 2012.

What I have noticed in your photos is how near to buildings/windows the plantings seem to be, is this deliberate to provide shade to their houses Delonix1?

In the case of plumeria trees, that's one reason. Another is that many people like the fragrance of the plumeria flowers to come their doors and windows.

Ah I didnt think of the scent thanks Delonix.

Yes, some varieties have the most exotic sweet fragrances of any plant or tree in the world.

Thanks! :>))
It's amazing it does so well. The ground there must be like concrete and it was extremely hot. Established plumeria trees in the ground tolerate quite a bit of extreme drought; however, they do have a limit...then the branches turn soft and droop.

Yes I bet it is like concrete with it taking water out the ground to survive. Interesting the branches go soft when its reached a limit with the heat.

Yes, the branches going soft means it's using up it's water and food reserve. Plumeria and other plants store food and water in their fleshy stems.

Thats interesting bit like a camel then. Lol.

Yes, very similar...believe-it-or-not. lol!
Many plants here with fleshy, succulent stems or a big caudex like for example, Adenium species store water and food.
You can see the caudex on a Adenium arabicum. I don't have a pic of mine on GoY. Here's a pics of a large A. arabicum on Wikipedia. A plant the size of the one on Wikipedia would cost a small fortune here. It must be more than 50 or 60 years old.
