thanks Amy..The dahlias really loved my previous garden, Dorjac. They've not done well for me the last season. First summer here I planted them near the front door in a newly dug plot and by the time they had their feet under them we had our first frost. Had one lovely blossom and that was it! Bought some more roots this spring and the yellow is not the first to bloom but it is the first to show some height. I like the cactus types but my absolute faves are the dinnerplate type. I'm expecting some changes in the next couple of weeks but summers are short here...would so like to see a riot of colour from them like I had in the other garden. oh well... I prefer plants that don't require a lot of fuss...so maybe I'll look for more echinacea and rudbeckia...they seem to do very well here.

Lovely yellow they grow well in soil that has not seen a dahlia before. We had huge ones many years ago when they were a fashion. It was a newly dug garden and they loved it.
