The Squirrrels have taken all the Kent cob nuts again Dawn , nothing left but a pile of shells ,11 caught and transported away from here to the woods , funny thing is Tony is convinced the one we caught yesterday is the same one he caught the other week , do you think they can find there way back ?

Hi Amy, I've just PM'd you.

Pesky squirrels, what a shame they've had all your hazel nuts. I got a Kent Cob nutter last year after knowing how good yours is, I dont know how you can stop the squirrels. No nuts on mine yet though :-(

I suppose they could find their way back - I'm intrigued how Tony recognised it, lol.

Oh I love that, Amy! Squirrels are very canny. I know that the squirrels here travel from miles around to come and get the walnuts ripening on our trees. It's such a messy process to get just a few nuts that I let them take them... But the peaches .... How I wish I had the climate for peaches! The apple trees here were hit with a double whammy this year...first a very early mild spell (March) and the blossoms budded up....then a month of severe cold and frosts (April) a bit of a recovery in May...then drought through June and July...it's a wonder there are any fruit. I have Hazel too...and I see the little bundles on the trees and think to go back later...when I do they're always gone..managed to get one (1) nut last year! and it was puny..even the squirrels didn't want it~! We have some dandy healthy squirrels tho!...

We had a walnut tree Lori unfortunately it died soon after we moved here ,the squirrels had planted Walnuts all over the garden so we now have a couple of baby trees which I have dug up and put into pots , the peaches have done well this year the Grandsons are here on holiday they love to pick some for their breakfast ,they are lovely sweet and juicy some have been falling off because they are so ripe ,our son suggested constructing a net underneath them to catch them :o)
Our apple trees haven't done any good this year we haven't any Russets or Orange Pippins and I'm going to miss the Bramleys as well for pies in the winter ,lets hope for a better year next year ..

Good idea Tet . although our weather this year has been as changeable and as strange as the rest of the country , we've not been cold which is good !

Looking good Amy, are they grown on a south facing wall? my brother who is in Notts has some good ones, although not as many as last year apparently.

Yes Angela but not on a wall they are on a high fence , we have a kind of frame made to house the tree so that we can pull fleeze down at the front to protect the blossom from frost but then roll it up during the day , I think we have more than last year that might be due to the rain , last year it was so dry ........

Unfortunately we do not have a south facing wall or fence!!

My apple trees havent done well either Amy, or the plums, thought we would have a bumper crop of apples with all the rain.
