Lovely shrub this one. I nearly lost it two winters ago, but now it is growing well again and the flowers are pure white, contrasting well with very dark shiny leaves.

Probably is then Scottish. It's very commonly grown. I see it in many gardens around here. :)

Not done at all well, did not like the winter or the spring or the summer, might be coming out, fed up with plants that do not perform well, it has had a good talking to.

I know A. I am also fed up. Today I have removed quite a few 'non-performers' myself!

Men don't seem to get that plants need to be 'managed' do they. Luckily my OH rarely notices any change in the garden unless he either witnesses it or has it pointed out to him, so now I never tell him what I am about to do and that way..no hassle! When I started 'consulting' him on gardening matters it was a disaster....went something like this...K "I think I shall remove that ...... because it is getting a bit large, and the dark foliage is a little oppressive" (perfectly reasonable and logical methinks) S "I should just leave it.....I mean, that plant must have cost a tenner and it looks perfectly fine to me".....see what I mean? disastrous! lol ;)
