I've wanted some for years, love the bark colour, but they were all huge shrubs, or would get to be. The pack said this one won't grow more than two metres, so hope they're right. it'll take some time for it to get big enough to be a concern - once it starts!

i always assume they quote the growth sizes for optimum conditions so i dont expect them to grow as big as it says in my garden cos its too shady here.???

I don't mind it being a bit smaller than standard, cos so is my garden! I would have loved to have a whole stand of various dogwoods - red, yellow, white, black, pink with purple stripes ... but as it is, this'll do, or i jolly well hope it will.

Fran, but I am suspicious, why that plant doesn´t have leaves on? It is too early to be leavesless. Check one branch if the plant isn´t wizened.

I was halfway through answering when teh damn PC froze and I had to swtich off everything - took me two hours to get back!
see if I can remember what I said before - the plant was bought bare-root and needed to be soaked in water for an hour before planting. the instructions were to plant March-May or Ausust-September. I planted it in July, I thought a few weeks wouldn't make that much difference - I'd forgotten in may and I'd probaboy forget again in September! but it might be a few weeks before its alarm clock goes off and it starts to wake up.
