Oh dear, Bramleys not doing very well this year!

Last year we placed a wooden box in the lane outside our house inviting passers by to 'help themselves' to our Bramley apples because we had so many we didn't know what to do with them all!
What a difference this year - about 10 on the whole tree!

Not a single plum on my tree Kathy, and if it goes on again like this next year, that will be coming out along with all the other fruit trees I've just removed. It looks like I shall mostly be growing water marginals in future! ;)

Our plum tree is pretty much biennial in it's fruiting, so there maybe hope for yours yet, Karensusan. Don't start digging it up just yet!
Despite all the drought, our fairly well established fruit trees have produced loads of fruit, just not as big or as juicy as in previous years. The Bramleys, however, have come up trumps yet again. Wonderful trees!
Surely Bramleys wouldn't make very good cider, would they, Simbad? We've been using all our apples to make juice. Only tried doing this for the first time this year, and it's worked really well. (Makes the kitchen a bit messy, though)

Same with my Bramley but we have no plums this year, think that late frost killed the blossom off, always next year for the jam making, will take a year off, unless............. the blackberries have grown down the woodside and then I will make some Blackberry jam instead.
It is amazing, Kathy only lives 2 miles (if that) away from me and it just goes to show different climates in different parts of the same areas. Much more sheltered from the town and a little bit lower. Really amazing how different things can be.

I only bought my plum as a decorative variety, its called 'Trailblazer' it has red leaves and lovely blossom, never expected to get edible fruit but every year its laden with fruit which is delicious, here's me thinking it was a good year for them I'll be standing guard watching for plum nappers then, lol.
I'm pretty sure you can Gattina, think they are a bit harder to crush/mill because they're a harder apple but supposed to make quite a nice cider, OH's been reading up on it :-), so many apple trees on the allotment and everyones always giving them away, last year one holder had a sign at the end of their plot saying please help yourself to apples, lol, I was given some greengages too not something I've ever tried but they were lovely just not sure what to make with them know you can make jam, I've just been eating them as they are :-)

I will get out my camouflage kit and be around to yours soon then Kathy, it is amazing how the areas vary, I know it does in gardens also. I have two plum trees one Czar and Opal used to have Victoria and another one but they were getting old and gnarled and we chopped them down. My friend loves Czar to eat, bit sour for me but it does make good jam. Opal was a new tree 3 years ago and it has not had any fruit yet, lots of blossom but nothing set on her. Shame. I was thinking of getting another plum so will have a look out for 'Trailblazer' thanks.

Our neighbour has the most amazing plum tree - this year more fruit than leaves or branches - the whole thing looks blue from a distance, but they haven't been able to eat a single one, because every wasp in the country has attacked it for the juice, seeing that it's been so dry for the whole summer, it's the only liquid they can get at, and every single plum is holey. The wasps (HUGE ones) have now moved onto our figs, which are rotting and alcoholic on the trees, and we have to be careful when we go down the garden, because they are all drunk as anything, flopping around on the ground, and liable to attack anything. (The wasps, that is, not the figs.)

Last year I was given loads of apples by a generous neighbour with a generous old tree. Bet I won't get any this year ....still could be worse, you could have Gattinas drunken wasps:-))

I could always send you some if you like..........

No thanks, at least with hardly any fruit we are being spared the wasps!

I`m relieved to find that others have found themselves with little amounts of fruit this year. My crop yielded 2lbs of plums from 2 trees, 4 Bramleys, no Blenhiem Orange Apples, and 2 pears, does anyone want to cry along with me I hate buying fruit it just doesn`t seem to have any taste !!!!!!!!,
sob, sob.
