i tink i will have to find space for some dahlias, do i open up another bed though! the little bite out of the left just shows up the perfection of the petals.
so good to see the bees still hard at work, do you have any hives Lori?

Don't know anyone in the area who has beehives. I have a perfect spot though. Will be looking into acquiring the paraphernalia over the winter...might be an interesting sideline along with the maple syrup.

bees wld spend a lot longer in their hives in the winter than in the uk or here, i wonder if that affects their lifespan.

The bees form a cluster, layer after layer of their bodies protect the queen and the eggs from the extreme cold...-30 to -50 is usually no problem. provided that they have sufficient food. other risk factors are external...and will vary from year to year...ventilation of the hive, varroa mites, starvation. The bees consume the honey and shiver to produce heat! Amazing creatures.
