I have both, Bloodgood and Emperor1 (both in pots) In my opinion The Emperor1 is better than the 'Bloodgood' . Leaves out later but keeps its color better and the fall color is brighter than Bloodgood's. (My observation only)

Thanks Terra.
I like larch as well and I am posting for you the Western red cedar on our property Sticki. It is not the large one but it is the one not in the forest I could capture by the camera.

This pot is almost in full sun. I understand that jap. maples do not like full sun, but this one is watered well and never had burned leaves on it. I have other acers in partial sun which do not look so healthy.

You probably get enough humidity that it doesn't burn.
Plants here typically burn when we get into the Santa Ana Wind Season (which started in mid-Sept). This is when the humidity can go down to 5 percent and is very hot!
