it isn't a Larkspur Lori my first thought was that it could be a Corn cockle ( Agrostemma ) but i'm not sure that the petals are right It's a pretty little thing it appears to have a little face ,sorry I'm not much help , I'll see if I can find anything in my wild flower book ! :o)

could it be a columbine of sorts?

I wondered that Bampy I couldn't quite see if they were little white 'tails' leading from the back of the top two flowers like an Aquilegia ......

my thoughts exactly Amy. It's the thin leaves that are throwing me though ??
Whatever it is I really want one :-)

I sent several kinds of seeds to Lori but I don't think this was one of them , I can't remember if there were any Aqu. amongst them ,it could be one thats reverted back to it's wild state I have seen similar ones in the grassy woods ... ... they are 'tails ' Bampy if you click on the picture press CTRL and at the same time press the PLUS button it will bring it up clearer .....

leaves are nothing like an Aq. but the flower looks like a delphinium...leaves are wrong for that too. I love mysteries and surprises too, Bampy. Was weeding around the rhus and burning bush and HELLO!...who are you? Somehow I don't think it's a wild flower, Amy...glad your looking...I'm getting nowhere.

Lori I have changed my mind I'm sure you are right about it being a Larkspur ,I've just been walking round my garden looking for ripe seeds and hey presto there peeping out from behind some plants was a larkspur like yours except it's a pale lilac colour it has the same little face the leaves are almost like a carrot fern leaf it has the same little 'tail ' I would take a photo right now but I can't at the moment I've lent my camera to Tony today I'll put it in water and take one tonight Im guessing the seed did come from me after all .. there's just an odd flower or two the rest have gone to seed .. :o))

I checked the seed packages you sent and found the Larkspur one. I still have some seed...thank goodness I didn't plant it all... Also something called Chilean glory flower...which didn't come at all. Thank you for this lovely larkspur ..it must be perennial because it has withstood the first "killing frost" ...I have a much larger plant almost ready to bloom in the new bed. I hope it can hang in there and I will be able to identify for sure...It was the ferny leaves that threw me...I expected something more like delphs. Thought at first that it was Love-In-A-Mist.
Thanks so much, once again. it's a beauty and I'll give it some winter protection in hopes that it will come again next spring. :-0) btw..the Cambridge blue succumbed while this little beauty is looking strong.

My larkspur usually seed themselves Lori hopefully you will get some different colours as well ,last year I had pink/ blue /lilac and white , you would have liked the Chilean glory flower it's a climber and rambles up shrubs ,sticks anything it can get hold of it's a pretty flower in red / orange /pink . It's just as well you managed to collect some Cambridge blue seed we just might have a better summer next year so that you will see them in bloom for a longer season ! we had a little ground frost last night , it's been sunny today .....
