Bought this plant a few years ago, and could not understand why it would not grow, moved it to different positions, still no joy, decided to dig it up and investigate, it was in one of those collars which was strangling the poor plant, it is now romping away in the garden, and this is a cutting!!

Well rescued , I wonder why they do that loads of plants must die they could at least tell you or put it on the label warning you .......

Amy it is to force the plant to flower quickly, normally the collar will rot away, but not in all cases, depends on soil and situation perhaps?
