Taken on his second day with us at just over 7 weeks old. Loki (Viking God of Mischief) turned ten weeks old yesterday & now weighs over 10 kilos, so a lot bigger than shown in photo. Clever boy now sits & downs on command & knows Leave It ....but takes some persuading when he has the cat's tail in his mouth ....Tammy doesn't seem to mind. Sleeps 7 hours straight every night & only does the occasional wee in the house (lucky we have polished floorboards throughout). Looking forward to when he has had his 3rd vaccination & I can take him out in public.

Lol .....he is a good boy, but dominant. He was the biggest in a litter of five boys .....I think he must have scoffed down the food before the others got a look in! As I am off work at the present time, with a back injury, it hasn't been easy trying to stay one step ahead of him, but I do clicker training with him a couple of times a day,& he is responding well to that. Snoozing at my feet as I type this, & my papillon is snoozing at my side, so it is lovely & quiet. As with most large breed puppies, he can be quite boisterous at times& evenings seem to be when he wants to dash about like a mad thing, just as we are wanting to sit down for a relaxed few hours in front of the tele. But all in all, he is not too bad & the puppy stage does not last forever. Jennyh .... He spends a lot of time sitting on the ceiling .....we are 'downunder' after all lol. Glue Katarina? Good idea ....especially for the evening to keep him in one spot ........lol

Worried now that the photo I posted is showing upside down lol. Or is it that he is a kiwi dog, & everyone knows that on this side of the world we all stand on our heads?? I didn't clicker train him to sit on the ceiling, I promise!

Snoop dog ...it took us ages to choose a name for him, as every name I liked, my OH didn't .... & vice versa. Then I decided to look up ancient Norse male names, because we called a male maremma we had a few years ago Thor ....Norse God of thunder ....even as a 7 week old puppy that maremma boy had a very deep bark. When I came across the name Loki & saw it was the name of the Viking God of mischief, I thought it might be a fitting name for our new puppy & my OH loved it too. At 10 weeks old now, he is living up to his name!

Lol Sandra. Funny thing is that it is the right way up on the iPad, & I couldn't understand why people were making comments about him sitting on the ceiling. It only dawned on me today & I switched the main comp on, & my suspicions were confirmed. Very odd indeed.

He's obviously a Viking God and can do anything....that includes defying gravity. LOL. He is gorgeous.

Thanks everyone. Loki is gorgeous, & has just turned 12 weeks old. Puppies are a lot of hard work, & I am looking forward to him being a few months older ....an occasional sleep-in would be wonderful! In the meantime, he will have his 3 rd vaccination this week & I am really pleased that shortly I will be able to start taking him out for walks.

He really is lovely, and they are hard work cleaning up after them, but well worth it. It's like having a baby all over again. (I saw a puppy being walked yesterday for the G D for the Blind. He was a yellow labrador.) It's good to train them right from the start. So many people don't train their dogs properly and they try and jump up people. I hope all goes well with the vets and please keep us posted........

Well sadly Loki never had his 3rd vaccination as he developed a gastro problem on the morning I was taking him to the vet for it. I was worried sick he had swallowed something too large & now had a full or partial blockage. Thankfully it did turn out to be gastro & hours after having an injection of antibiotics, he was starting to eat again & less lethargic. He eats anything he can find, including dirt! As a young puppy, the breeder raised these babies in a shed with a dirt enclosure, so I think he must have developed a liking for dirt very early on. The vet said it is quite common & just to keep him away from stones. Her own puppy swallowed stones & required surgery, so I am keeping a close eye on Loki when he is romping outdoors. Back to his usual boisterous self now, so will have that vaccination early next week.

Poor little baby......Glad he's feeling better now. Puppies do tend to chew at most things because of their teeth. I suppose the word no comes into play from an early age eh Dwyllis.

Lindak, no is the first word he learnt & he has learnt it from repetition! It's the word I say most nowadays lol. He weighed in at 13.2 kilos at the vet last week, so he's going to be on the big side for a golden retriever, but we are used to big dogs as we have had Maremmas in the past. They weigh in at around 50 kilos as adults, so considered to be a super-large breed, but this young fellow will reacl 35, I suspect. Booked to have his 3rd vaccination on Monday.

Hope all goes well this time Dwyllis.

Thanks Lindak. Yes all has gone well. Loki had his third vaccination bout three hours ago. The vet said to pop him onto the scales. I reminded her that she had weighed him five days ago, when he got gastro, & she said she wanted to see if he had dropped off any weight while unwell. So popped him onto the scales & we were both amazed to see that he had gained two kilos in five days! Well, as I told her, he had been ravenously hungry since recovering from his tummy upset, but I started giving him smaller meals yesterday as don't want him putting stress on his joints, which is not good for these large breeds. The vet said he was actually not fat at all, just a very big boy ....15.5 kilos now at 13 weeks. So now he is snoozing happily at my feet. Thank you for your interest. Will post another pic soon.
