:))
It wasn´t Baskerwill dog. It was lovely vagabond. He watched me and when I spoke to him he sat to me and let me scratch him behind ears. He was so meek.
In contrary to this horribe photo, lol.

We have one like this on our coast Kat , it's called 'Black Shuck ' it wanders along the coast in search of it's master who never came back from the sea ,the story goes that anybody who sees it will die !

But is it a legend or the dog is still alive?

The dog isn't alive now Kat ,It was suppose to be a true story that happened many many years ago , like all tales they get altered over time it's said that the church in Bungay has deep claw marks in the wooden door where it tried to get in . Fact or fiction ! we shall never know ......

Hm. There is similar story in Cracow but this one is quite recent and authentic. There is a beautiful memorial fo a dog at the bank of Visla river. This monument is named "To the most faithful".
It is devoted to a dog, whose master died in the street while on the walk with his dog. Ambulance took the dead man away, yet his dog was coming back for several weeks, always sitting in the most busy crossroad. So after a half of the year local radio started to look for another owner. They found old lady who kept him for several years. then she died too. Dog was killed by train. So sad story. But Cracovians collected money for a beautiful memorial, devoted to this exceptionally loyal friend of a man.
Here is the story in English with photo:

Thanks Kat , we had a video of exactly this story I cried my eyes out when we watched it and have passed it on to my daughter to watch when she has the time , in this story he wasn't looked after by an elderly lady he stayed at the roundabout in front of the station waiting for his master through terrible cold winters , he was fed by the local people he then died of old age after about 14 years , when he died in the film he could see his masters ghost and ran to greet him ,sob sob ! I love the memorial it was so kind of the people to collect for it .........

read in a myths of Britain book that spectral black dogs are peculairy Britsh [or English, can't remember which] - all over Enlgnad at least, if not other UK countries - hat's where the legend that the Hound of the Baskervilles was taken from

Canary Islands have had very old sort of dogs, it was said they are direct line of old Egyptian dogs. These days they are critically endangered and the sort of dog, which is now spread as canary dog is in fact fighting sort, crossed for fights and introduced by British sailors (?).

Oh, that's a shame; always is when an indigenous species is at risk. The Romans named the islands after the dogs (Canis), which suggests that the dogs had already been there when the Romans arrived. Unless they relased the dogs there in the first place! They knew the Egyptians, so might have known Egypitan dogs. Don't see how the Egyptians themselves could have got there, as they were busy mostly at the other side of Africa. Intersting

Fran@also the geographic map was different in Egyptian times. In Canary island people built pyramids. Did you know that? Cultural connections existed between much farer distances.

Just for your interest - genetic mapping is the most reliable method how to detect who - from where and where did go :)

didn't know about the pyramids, though I've heard about ancient stone remains. fascinating that they have a whistling language, esies way to communicate between mountain tops!

I'm trying to get my DNA sorted, find out which "Daughter of Eve" is my granny - also, if possible, which British tribe I'm closest to.

Thanks for the link, I'll chase it up.

not just that, Fran. former aborigins from the Canary islands were tall and had blue eyes. Any suggestion?

13 Nov, 2012

smiles, maybe refugees from Atlantis?

Googled "orogins of Canary Islanders" because I couldn't remember how to spell Guanches - if that's right!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canarian_people

some way down the page is "genetic origins" it said the most likely origins were from the Berbers, which I thought were North African people, so unlikely to have blue eyes - brown eyes and hot climates seem to go together,

this has started me on an exploration - between Google and Wiki, I'll be travelling for some time, in several different directions

Atlantis sounds good :) Especially if you read that Guanches had horror from the sea, in contrary to nations around Mediterranean.
Sorry to dissappoint you, but Saharian Berbers also have had blue eyes :)))
If I have time, I will find an article for you, but now I am busy.
Anyway, this was very interesting nation.

not disappointed at all *s*, I did a Google on "brown eyes v blue eyes" and found some interesting diversions, one of which kept me busy for at least two hours, and I've still only scratched the surface of that site! so I'm glad the subject came up in here that led me to it!

Happy you!

Hi, SL, hope you are oing well. I think you are again very polite, as usual, lol. I think this photo is so bad it would have been discarted, the only thing how to make this photo interesting, was to compare it with hound of Baskerwill :))

18 Nov, 2012
