Here we go again. lol! This African Tulip is just starting to bloom in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken Nov. 8, 2010.

You could grow it as a potted plant. It will bloom pretty well outdoors in a pot (during summer).

I kept mine in a pot for a couple of years. It bloomed and did very well. It would need a root-pruning once a year, though.
This plant needs some heat. It doesn't need a tremendous amount of heat, though. In fact, it doesn't grow out in the desert because it's way too hot for it....also, it's a very tender tree. The flowers dry up in hot dry heat. It's happened here before.

Yes, it can grow to taller than 50ft (15m) here in San Diego. This is a young tree it's only been there for about 3 years or so. As you well know, it's a fast grower.

I would love to be able to grow this tree, I just love the combination of the bright orange with the lush leaves...
