Garrya elliptica 'James Roof'

Garrya elliptica 'James Roof'

My OH was so keen to have this that I persevered in trying to find somewhere to grow one. This is plant number 7. It is living and flowering well in this little pocket of soil. The flowers are not as long as they should be on James Roof but given its location I think I have to give myself a pat on the back because it is happy.

Well done ..
Looking at the pic of James Roof, which direction is the wall/fence facing ?

It faces slightly south west. You can just see this area on a photo I put up of the front garden - its on page 8 of my photos. You can see there how sheltered it is by trees to the west of it.

I'm wondering if this one was successful because the soil never dries out completely .. being under the path ...
I'll check out your other pic...

I found the photo... do you mean JR is in the area which is at the top of that photo ?

Garryas can be male or female ..

'Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ is a male form with dark, sea-green, slightly larger leaves and silver-grey catkins up to 20cm (8in) long.'

I've put on a slightly better pic for you TT. As soon as the weather improves I must get out there and get a decent photo. I did not realise I had neglected to record its progress.
