Happy Thanksgiving from San Diego, CA. My Hilo Beauty Plumeria was in full bloom on the holiday. It was such a warm and beautiful holiday weekend with temps up to 85ºF (29ºC). Photo taken Nov. 22, 2012.

Really very special!

Marguerite:
It has a wonderful strong sweet, spicy scent (even when the flowers are shriveled up they still have the scent).

Meanie:
It really is quite special. Also, it's not the most common variety.

I love the colour of your Plumeria, Aleyna! :-)) I have never grown these plants but a photo of one was on my wife's laptop when she first bought it some years ago. I liked it so much I even got her to send it to me & had it as my desktop wallpaper for some time as well! I wonder if they can be grown in the UK?

The Plumeria is mine, not Aleyna's! lol!
I have many Plumeria varieties in pots and in the ground. They're a very common tree/shrub here in San Diego, CA.
You could grow one in the UK...it may be a little difficult to get one to bloom, though (this is information from Milky). Plumerias need a lot of very hot sun to bloom well. Also, it's a tropical tree which cannot tolerate freezing temps.

I was wondering... because I gave my daughter one a few years ago, but the gate droped over and we lost it... just when it was blooming... never took a picture of the flowers ...:(

Aleyna:
The pieces of the plumeria could be planted...it's very easy to start from cuttings.

Delonix please forgive me for the mistake! I didn't realize I'd credited to the wrong person. Thanks also for the information about growing them here in the UK. Obviously we don't get a lot of hot sunshine!
Sunshine? What's that? Haven't seen much of it this year when we had the coldest, wettest summer in the UK since records began over a 100 years ago!

No problem. :>)
You're welcome for the information.
I've heard about your cool and rainy summer. Maybe this coming year you'll get a nice warm summer.
It was the opposite for us here in inland San Diego, CA. this past summer. It was horribly HOT and HUMID! We actually just started to cool down a bit about two weeks ago. It's only going to be 71ºF (22ºC) today (which is close to normal).
11 Dec, 2012
I was talking to my sister in Texas this afternoon & she was shivering with temps down to 49ºF (10ºC). She normally tells me the temps are wayyy up high & with lots of humidity. She lives near San Antonio.

Yes, Texas and all the southern states are extremely hot and humid for much of the year. I've seen on the TV that the temps have been above normal for most of the south for the last month or so, also. It's starting to cool down there, though.
Yesterday we enjoyed a high temp of 74ºF (23ºC). Today is cooler. The high will only be 68ºF (20ºC), where I live.
12 Dec, 2012
We are back into "warmer" weather with temps around 8-10ºC after a week of sub-zero temps & several days of freezing fog! The middle of next week we are forecast lots of rain again & strong winds. :-((
My nephew in Texas said they had some heavy rain there today!
16 Dec, 2012
It's been very cool here in San Diego. Only 63ºF (17ºC) during the day, which is well below our normal high of 70ºF (21ºC). We've had some much needed rain the last 3 days (the first real rain of the season) and more is coming tonight.

While we are getting too much of it! Our spring was very dry & we had drought measures in place over most of the country - who'd believe now that we have had one of the wettest years on record!
23 Dec, 2012
Yes, I heard about all the record rains in the UK. Is it still very rainy?
We've had some rainy and very cool days here in San Diego, it's pretty unusual. However, we need all the rain we can get, especially since we have such long droughts. The last drought lasted 7 years.
