They do not do enough damage that I worry about them. They occasionally bite through a stem and send the flower to the ground which means I go on a slug and snail hunt early in the morning or at dusk. I don't use slug pellets because I'm sure it attracts the blighters.

Our kitchen/ breakfast room where we spend a lot of time and where visitors end up because its so cosy with the Esse cooker (yes I still cook by coal) looks out on this part of the garden so I can easily spot that the lupin lumberjacks have been at it again. I usually go for a wander round on even the coldest days. Great life this retirement lark.

Linclass found a toad in her garden recently. I have at least one, so I do have help in keeping the slug population under control. I was thinking of the slug size v the height of the lupin lol.

Slugs destroyed my young lupins earlier this year - I just wasn't aware until it was too late. Hopefully they will return next year. Are these flowering now, Scotsgran?

The pink one on its own - photo dated 20.11.12 is still standing Gee. Its a bit worse for wear since the ground defrosted overnight but I have never had lupins flowering on like this one has. I must have missed this stem when I cut back the others.
