Not us Delonix. We will be long gone.

That's too bad! :>( Typically, papayas take from 4 -8 months to ripen. Home-grown papayas are the best.
I have many papayas on my plants right now. I used to have a papaya forest in my back yard. Now, I only have 5 plants. I'm going to plant many more in spring.

5 plants is a lot. What are you doing with so much fruit?
I eat papaya every day. But we only consume 1 or 2 per week. I would think that they do not last that well when riped. Do they ripe in different times?

I had 10 plants in my back yard, they were too close together. This is what I called my papaya forest. :>)
I give the fruit away and many times the fruit ripens at intervals (from the bottom up). Back in 2007 I had a bumper crop (when I had the papaya forest) I couldn't give them away fast enough. I ended up picking many of the green fruit for Filipino-style green papaya chicken (which is to die for).
By the way, you're correct, ripe papayas do not store well.

Green Papaya chicken sounds intriguing Delonix1. I will have to google it.

Yes, there's a lot of recipes you can use green papayas for in cooking.
