Another view of bridge over the flooded Brook

It is amazing how much water there is lying around, we have been so lucky this year that the Trent hasn't gone over and flooded the A631. It has been very close but think the danger is over now. Love all your pictures, the Amarylis pictures are lovely and last years lillies and tulips, so looking forward to spring again.

There is a great deal of water around, that's for sure! It won't be going away soon either! :-((

Today I dug up 1 row (of 4) Leeks on my allotment & the ground is still saturated. :-(( Our allotments field is sitting on the top of an abandoned sand/gravel pit that was filled in 50 years ago. The subsoil is pure sand/gravel. In some places on my allotment it isn't more than half a spit down though the majority has a spit of workable soil above it. Normally it can be worked the day after heavy rainfall but not this year!

Because of all the rain it is going to be difficult growing anything this year!

The Lilies are from decades ago! I grew them in Spain in 1990/1!!! I haven't grown any in the UK - yet! Though I have seedlings growing on the allotment.

The Tulips from last year were spectacular but I didn't buy any for this year I just bought Daffs. These are high now & in a month's time will be blooming! :-))

I love lillies too. Lots of them have seeds and I managed to grow some from seed myself much to my amazement. I thought it was a lost cause but no they came up and produced lots of leaf, maybe they will flower too this year. I just hate the dreaded lily beetle. Over 120 squished last year and on the fritillarias too. It is a horrible task seeking out and squishing them, think this is the only time I am glad of my size 8 boots. lol.

I like Lilies, too, I don't know why I haven't bought any in 12 years! I have lots more seeds to sow but as I can't get down to the allotments for more than a short while, & that very rarely, I can't sow them yet.

the brook must be twice as wide as usual - one would hve to wade out a way to get to the bridge at all!

It was a lot wider than usual but the river forces it to back up as well, adding to the flooding of Riverside Park.

In fact there is a small park in the middle of town, but just behind the High Street, that acts like a sump to catch the overflow from the Brook actually entering the High Street. I've seen it in flood a number of times but this year it even flooded the path that runs alongside it & enters the High Street. I'd never seen this flooded before! There was nothing on the Look East programme on BBC 1 the next day so I imagine the water never reached the High Street.

As are we! We have never experienced any flooding in the town. The river passes by about 5 minutes walk from where we live but we are in no danger of flooding - unless the river lever is capable of rising several metres above its banks!

The is plenty of room for the river to expand without being a threat to humans. One year when we had heavy rain after heavy snow the field behind the factory where I used to work flooded, as it often does in the winter, but there were a lot of sheep on the field. The fire service was there rescuing them when I arrived at the factory just before 4pm to start work!

Perhaps the water rose faster than the farmer had anticipated & he wasn't able to get them out before the river flooded the field trapping the poor sheep. I suppose all or the majority were saved as I heard nothing about drowned sheep on the local news on TV the following day.

A time when no news is good news, indeed.
