Clerodendrum x speciossum cuttings

Clerodendrum x speciossum cuttings (Clerodendrum x speciossum)

A GoY member who lives a few miles from me gave me these cuttings last weekend. I hope they root. The bracts, which are pictured are rosy-red and the flowers will be scarlet. The mother vine is still in full bloom outside on this spectacular tropical vine (here in San Diego). Photo taken Feb. 12, 2013.

Thanks! I think they will. I'm going to plant them outside growing up the laths on my shade structure in the front yard.

Lovely shades of red ...

Did you see a photo of this plant in full bloom on the internet?

I wish I could have gotten a photo of the mother plant from my cuttings. It was too dark, though.

Maybe you'll get a chance to photograph the mother plant during daylight ..

Yes, I'm sure that will happen (when the days get a little longer). The ornate, expensive trellis the vine is growing on makes it even more superb! GoY member MVM has the most immaculately, manicured extremely clean garden I've ever seen. The tropical plants and rare palms are flawless and incredible! I'm embarrassed to show my garden. lol!

I took some photos of MVM garden about two years ago. I actually may have a photo of the vine in those photos. I'll have to check.

Sounds like MVM has a superb garden ..
Yes... maybe you'll find the vine photo :o)

It's very spectacular! I'm going to get some cuttings of MVM's Stictocardia beraviensis (Hawaiian Sunset Vine) which it is the most beautiful vine I've ever seen in my life. It's a tropical vine native to Africa.

Here's what a flower looks like which was taken in MVM garden.

Just googled Stictocardia beraviensis - STUNNING!
Almost as nice as Strongylodon macrobotrys in fact!

MVM is going to take the vine out. He says it's much too aggressive for his garden. He said the vine has to be cut back everyday in summer because it's so a rampant. :>(

Some people are never happy!

Some people just have very high standards for their gardens.
