There were 5 squirrels...really!

it was a challenge to get a decently focused shot of five very active young black squirrels who discovered the seed laden ground below the tree and later the suet in the feeder.

Who ever said: "more fun than a barrel of monkeys"...never gave a thought to squirrels! It was a lot of fun just watching them...getting a pic was a bit tough..but they are delightful. Not happy that they have tried to infiltrate our attic space...but can't blame them in the cold winter. Next spring will work to squirrel proof the soffits and fascia. lol...squirrels and raccoons in an attic space are health and safety hazards!

we get the field mice moving in in the winter...each time the valley floods i have visions of the pesky little critters packing their suitcases and moving up the valley into my attic...

Arghhh....I had this mental picture of lemming-like fieldmice in a wave...up the valley...gazing with great relief at your snug house. I've been trying everything to get them out of our crawl space. They move from there into the basement and I have found seed caches and nests in my winter boots which I hung by the laces from one of the floor joists. They can get into anything! Not to be outdone the squirrels have found their way into the attic. Two nights ago at about 2 a.m. one was making a racket in the stove/Chimney baffle. I blamed Rufus for all the noise..but found him sitting on the unused, cold stove...staring upward at the baffle. Woke T. thumping on the ceiling. It was very cold outside that night...haven't heard anything since ..so I'm hoping it was just a one night stay.

it drives our dogs nuts too Lori. last year we had to replace a piece of plasterboard when Ruby decided she would help in the capture of the rodents. this one had been helping itself to the dogs food. we found a hoard of all sorts in the opening ruby created ...wool, dog food and a plum.....a trap was set and we caught the little blighter. hope u catch your intruder...

When I have the kitchen cupboards the way I want them and my new kitchen floor down, then I know the mouse problem will be close to being solved. I fear I have more than one intruder. Rufus surprised us with a mouse each of the last three mornings. They look like babies though. Rufus is on the job...Go Rufus!
