Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree Bud (Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree)

My African Tulip tree is full of buds. It should be blooming by next month. Photo taken Mar. 14, 2013.

Interestingly, African tulip trees blooms are over here in Mexico (March 2913) and the seed pods are just developing.

Klahanie:

African Tulip trees are very strange here...they all have their own bloom cycle. Depending on the tree, they can bloom any month of the year. I've seen the large ones around the freeways in downtown in San Diego in full bloom in January. Even two right next to each other, one can be in bloom and the other not...with this being said: the majority of the trees will bloom heavily from: April - December.

I've pretty much stopped trying to understand how African Tulips bloom here. LOL! The nice thing is that you can see some in bloom all year.

That is interesing, because here I see no blooms anymore anywhere. Must be, that the area around San Diego has many different microclimates?

Yes, San Diego has many micro-climates; however, two trees right next to each other could bloom at different times of the year. My unscientific conclusion is that each tree is on a different bloom cycle.
