Whiteswood Cottage

Whiteswood Cottage

First day of Spring. Thought I would take a picture before the snow descends on us tonight and tomorrow, just so I can see what it looked like before it turns white.

Yes...quite a lot forecast on next few days in east, I believe. Not sure if we're going to cop for it .I suspect not or just on the fringe of it! I do, however, think that my two football away trips to Soham on Saturday and Wroxham on Tuesday are looking unlikely!!!!!

Paul I think it is the middle of the country and parts of Wales who will get the worst snow. Some in N.Ireland too. Hope you get to your footy matches.

Yeah, not a great weekend forecast is it!!!
Very neat and tidy - we can see where Karen gets it from ;)

it is now Scottish, just got a couple more borders to turn the soil over in and then it is ready, much too wet at the minute though. :O)

Garden looking good Barbara...shame about the coming weather....last year this time was quite hot, this year hmmmm...could that mean we may get a better summer..as last year we had it all in March and April :((

21 Mar, 2013

thank you Michaella - think all of us on here are hoping and wishing for a better summer. We need some sunshine after last summer. If it is of consolation in 1976 it snowed in June and then it was that hot it was unbearable.

All looking very pristine and healthy,we also have snow forecast!

yep saw it was all the way across to that side of the country Pansypotter, hope we do not get what they have forecast, keep dry and safe :O)

You too Olive ;0)

Look at those day lilies coming up! Mine are emerging too...I don't think we will have snow on our coastal patch, but it's going to be quite a shock to the system to get home to the cold. I'm sunning myself...in the shade...in my cosier! Grrrrr....but how long can it continue? Surely the end is nigh for winter now the solstice is passed.....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze!

what a lovely garden !! adding this to my favourites

Thanks Paulspond so pleased you like it, bit bare at the moment, will soon (hopefully) be bursting with colour.

Karen those Daylillies are further on than they were same time last year, isn't it strange think they must have been short of water last spring, all that rain did good after all. :O)

I know, but maybe because of all the wet we have had that has made them spurt quicker, it is quite strange as it is very very cold here but things are moving slowly. I noticed today the Forsythia is almost flowering, it will be out next week unless of course we get a lot of snow again which will hold it back. Hedgerows are beginning to burst into leaf in sheltered spots too. Weird how the natural world knows when its time comes to do its thing it just gets on with it and does it.

My Viburnum Bodnatense Dawn was flowering lovely then the frosts and snow came couple weeks ago to knock them back and it's just got new flowers opening...just in time for the next lot of frost and snow!!! Such a shame as I love the scent!!!

Just beautiful....

It is a shame Paul, going to have a look at that one as I am now introducing shrubs into the borders to give some stature and I love the perfumed ones.

Thanks Moti. :O)

It flowers throughout winter on bare stems, Oliveoil. It grows quite large in time!

22 Mar, 2013

Speaking of flowering shrubs....do you remember I had to remove my Philadelphus because it was too large for its space. Well, I found a smaller var...only grows to about a metre, and I've planted it beside the gravel seating area, so I'll be able to enjoy the scent again!....will look up the name...P. Snowbelle. :)

Metre sounds about right height for the borders. will have a look at that - thanks Karen. :O)

:D

Oh, forget V Bodnatense dawn then olive, it grows more tha double that!

The garden looks ready to burst forward! Your daylilies are a lot further on than mine. I don't think the plants have minded the last 12 months' weather nearly as much as we have. Sometimes I think they are a lot hardier than we give them credit for (with notable exceptions, of course).

22 Mar, 2013

Paul I think I could find a spot in front of my shed for the one you suggest it would help hide the structure well. I could then smell it from my back door.

Thanks Melchi it does, but think it might be covered in snow tomorrow, it has just started here. I agree lots of plants surprise us with how they stand the cold conditions. These daylillies are further on than at the same time last year, when it was really warm. I think it is all to do with all the water we had last year.

I think that's right, Barbara.

It's been snowing here all day without a break, but it hasn't lain. It's cold, though, and very windy. Not at all nice. At the moment, we have better weather forecast for next week. Let's hope it's correct!

22 Mar, 2013

snowed all night and we are worse than at any other time for snow this winter. :O(

23 Mar, 2013

It is definitely the coldest spell we've had this winter too....although the pond isn't frozen...so it must be down to wind chill.

23 Mar, 2013

We went out last night for a meal to celebrate our anniversary, gosh it was so cold but still not as bad as the year you were born. lol. and I can remember clearing snow of the pitches at Skegness at Easter Hockey Festival, can you remember those days lol.
