roots of an old tree

I am intrigued by these roots. I have hundereds of pictures of tree roots such as this.

I like pictures of old trees too, also the roots when you get anything like these showing up!

I must admit that I do not know. We are going back again this winter so I will look little closer. Usually there are lots of eucalyptus trees with exposed roots like this, but I do not think this is an eucalyptus. The soil must be very poor there.

Might be a native tree. Some kind of tropical Chestnut? All a guess.
Klahanie..I spotted here in Hayward what I think are two VERY young Montezuma Cypress.
