Yes, its to try and get them to grow upright, and its a circular support. It helps to keep them together instead of flopping.

I had to bring my new one in as the frost had made the flowers droop. Glad to say its perked up! Goodness knows what I'm going to do with the lily bulbs that arrived from amazon today....too frozen to plant them and I don't really want them in pots!

Could you clear a patch and put something over the soil to warm it up enough to get the bulbs in.
